The Seychelles National Archives in collaboration with the National Museum organized an exhibition entitled “L’Enblem Fler” in October 2000 for the Creole Festival celebration. This exhibition showed the ‘language’ using flowers our great grand parents used in the past instead of words to make others aware of their feelings and sentiments. Such feelings could be friendship, rejection, hatred and mostly romantic feelings.
For example, if a woman gives or shows a man a “Red Rose”, it means she loves him so much.

“Red St. Andre flower”, if a woman shows a man such flower, it means that she will love him for the rest of her life. |
“Roz Lamarye”. If a woman shows this flower to a man, this means she is in love with somebody else. |

These expressions came from the European tradition, especially the French who colonized Seychelles many years ago.
