Brigadier-General Sir Joseph Aloysius Byrne. b. 1874, son of Dr J. Byrne, of Londonderry. Married 1908, and had one daughter. He was educated at St George’s College, Weybridge and Maison de Melle, Belgium. Joined Royal Inniskillen Fusiliers, 1893; served in South African War. Deputy Ajudant-General, Irish Command, 1916. In 1916 -1920 he was called to Bar, Lincoln’s Inn 1921. He was Governor of Seychelles from 1922-1927; Governor of Sierra Leone, 1927-1931; Governor of Kenya, 1931-1937. He died in 1942.
